I looked after the PG tips account for a few years, which means you spend a lot of time hanging out with a knitted Monkey. Below is a brand ad we made to celebrate the feeling of catching up with loved ones over a cup of tea. Directed by Steve Bendalack at Hungry Man.

When we started working on the account the brand had no online presence so we made them a Facebook page and began interacting. We launched with an intro film on the page which showed Al & Monkey broadcasting to the world of the internet from the cupboard under the stairs. Soon it was the most engaged UK brand on Facebook.

This is how it looked:

The idea was to just be entertaining and keep creating content for the page, so we'd shoot little updates from the cupboard under the stairs:

Or we'd make a collection of Valentine's ecards for you to send via Facebook, which we pitched as having been designed by Al & Monkey.

Whenever we shot anything for TV we'd find a way to also make content for the Facebook page. PG tips wanted to launch their Special Moments Range with a tag on an old ad (made by Stu Outhwaite and Ben Middleton), so we wrote a tag that could lead to a collection of films that told the story of the range on Facebook. The tag:

Some of the print work from the same campaign. Painted by hand by the brilliant Bob Venables:

When we needed to make a short cash giveaway ad for TV, we used the shoot to also make a humorous  outtake film for our Facebook fans.

We recorded lots of radio for PG tips - this one made it into Campaigns top 10 radio ads of 2012:

I was pretty much Monkey for 2 years, writing everything he came out with, including his Private View:
